How to Get Rid of Unpleasant Smells in a House

When selling real estate keep in mind that buyers buy with all their senses. If there is an unpleasant smell present in a house, buyers will easily turn around and you may loose the sale of your property or present a lower offer. As home stagers in Fairfield county and Westchester county we visit many houses. As part of our job is to make home sellers aware if we feel that there a smell prevails.

We recently did a vacant walk-through for a staging and I could not help noticing a VERY STRONG smell in the basement of the house – the owners when they were living there had several cats, which left this unpleasant odor behind. When we came back about about 2 weeks later to stage the property, the SMELL WAS COMPLETELY GONE. I was impressed!!! So, how do you to get rid of unpleasant smells in a house?

David Siever, founder of CataCoatTM  uses a natural technology to kill smell causing bacteria. They key is that this technology eliminates it and does not just mask the smell  like all conventional methodologies – and best of all, it is odorless.

Here is how David Siever explains how it works: “Realtors typically counsel homeowners to lower the asking price of their home by at least 10% or more if it has an unpleasant odor, and to expect an extra 60 days for it to sell.  In the past, homeowners had no choice but to bite bullet and proceed, knowing that commercially available products only mask the smell.

CataCoatTM photocatalytic lighting products are a revolutionary new tool that can change all that.

Just as a good staging professional can make a home “show” better, CataCoatTM can remove home odors and keep it smelling good for years, in the process enhancing your home’s market value.

CataCoatTM lighting solutions

CataCoatTM employs the same non-toxic Titanium Dioxide (TiO2) that’s commonly used as a whitener and brightener in paint, sunscreen, toothpaste, lipstick and hundreds of other consumables.

When reduced to the size of a DNA molecule, suspended in water and coated by a proprietary process onto an LED, CFL or fluorescent light bulb, CataCoatTM‘s light-activated nano-film will remove even the worst odors, making a home odor-free again.

How CataCoatTM works: Every odor represents a distinct organic molecule.  As odor molecules contact a CataCoatTM bulb’s nanoTiO2-treated surface, their carbon-hydrogen bonds are safely and silently ripped apart and converted into water and CO2.

The result is a totally neutral, fresh smell, like the odor was never there in the first place. Yet as powerful as it is, CataCoatTM nanoTiO2 is totally harmless to humans, dogs, cats, birds and other small life forms.  It only destroys odor-causing microorganisms.

How long does the coating last?

CataCoatTM‘s TiO2 nanofilm doesn’t get destroyed in the process of killing odors, so can theoretically outlive the bulb itself.

What kind of odors is CataCoatTM capable of eliminating?

Typical odors CataCoatTM can eliminate include:

  • Apartment cooking smells
  • Cigar and cigarette smoke odor
  • Dog poop, cat urine and bird cage odors
  • Lingering electrical fire smell
  • Body odor/locker smells
  • Smelly shoes/athletic wear smells
  • Moldy tent/sleeping bag odor
  • Curry and other aromatic food smells
  • Nursing home fecal and urinary odors
  • Musty basement mold & mildew smell
  • New carpet and paint smells, VOC fumes
  • Car exhaust and paint fumes
  • Rotten eggs/garbage/even skunk smell
  • Gasoline, diesel and paint thinner fumes
  • Off-putting car, truck or boat interior smells

Odor Removal Time

CataCoatTM lighting solutions will remove even the worst odor in anywhere from a few minutes to two days. Actual removal time will depend on the odor molecule’s complexity.
