Interior design trends are constantly evolving and often reflect the elements and needs of our society at that given time. 2020 has been an extraordinarily interesting and unique year thus far and we’ve definitely seen this mirrored in the design industry. Now that we are half-way through, here are our top 5 interior design trends:
1. CURVED FURNITURE

Chunky, free-form, curved furniture such as sofas and chairs are becoming widely popular. This choice of furniture brings a softness to your home and is reflective of the curves and shapes we see in nature. We love this trend because it adds a unique level of comfort, flow, and style to a space.
2. EARTH TONES

Although we continue to see bold black and white as a popular design trend, neutral earth tones are becoming a go-to this year. Like the curved furniture, these color choices bring a warm and calming feeling to the indoors by mirroring what we see in nature. Try muted shades of green and yellow, warmer grays and burnt orange to add tranquility to your home.
3. HOME OFFICES/ MULTI-USE ROOMS

We never could have imagined just how important an efficient and inspiring home-office space would become this year. Many employers have realized the benefits of working from home and a lot of us will very likely continue to work from home even after the pandemic has passed. A home office or multi-use rooms that can be converted to office space when needed, is one of the top priorities of current home buyers. We recommend focusing on eliminating distractions with some sort of separation from other areas of the house, proper lighting, soft colors, and personal touches that will inspire and bring you joy every day. We already saw before the pandemic a slight decline in completely open floor plan design to more defined rooms, which is now in even higher demand.

4. MIXED METALS

The next top interior design trend is mixed metals. This trend has been around for a while now and continues to remain popular. Mixed metals add vibrancy and interest to a room, while also creating a unique sense of balance that we all look to achieve. For an easy way to mix metals, we suggest choosing one main color (gold, silver, black, copper, etc) and mixing in accents of different metals. Some repetition is key to a successful implementation of mixing.
5. RATTAN & WICKER FURNITURE

Another trend that brings the outdoors in and adds to the natural vibe is rattan and wicker furniture. When talking about wicker, don’t think about the 70’s style wicker. The design of the modern rattan and wicker furniture is with clean and sophisticated lines. These pieces create a casual and organic element and can be used nicely within beachy, boho, farmhouse or even more modern spaces.
