ELEVATE YOUR HOME: 10 Ways to Make Add Luxury & Style

Are you looking to elevate your home and don’t know where to start? There are easy and inexpensive ways that you can make your home look and feel more luxurious and stylish. Keep in mind that you don’t need any of these things to have a beautiful, functional home, and it’s perfectly okay if you don’t want or care to do any of the tips! But, if you are interested in having a more styled home, and want to learn the ways you can easily upgrade your space, keep reading.

1. Avoid Matching Furniture

If you want to make your home look and feel more luxurious and stylish, avoid matching furniture. Matching furniture sets are dated in general, and they really lack creativity and inspiration. To elevate your space, choose furniture that is cohesive in style but not identical. You’d be surprised how well seemingly different items can work together, and how much that can improve the look of your home.

2. Declutter Accessories

Everyone collects little knickknacks and accessories over the years, but having a lot of these on display will cheapen the look of your space. If you really want to upgrade your home design and décor, consider paring down small accessories. Instead, replace these items with a few large pieces. This will instantly make your home feel more stylish, luxurious and less distracting.

3. Do “Themes” with Subtlety

Does your home, or various rooms in your home, have a distinct theme? Think farmhouse, or coastal. If you walk into that space and it screams the theme, it may not look the most elevated. There’s nothing wrong with going for a theme, but if you want your home to look stylish and luxurious, aim for subtlety. Try incorporating small design elements that tie in your theme and make sense for your entire home and avoid really obvious and kitschy pieces.

4. Go for Large, Statement Art

Just like decluttering accessories, decluttering the artwork in your home will really elevate your design. Choosing large, statement art to fill up walls will make your home look luxurious and stylish. The price of art can range dramatically, but there are still inexpensive places to find large, good quality art pieces, like Home Goods. The art can be statement making, or more neutral, as long as it works with your space and other décor.

5. Choose Artisan Over Mass Produced

When it comes to all home products, furniture, artwork and accessories, certain items look very mass-produced, while others feel more unique and artisan. If you want to elevate your home, look for these items. Remember that just because it looks more unique and stylish, does not mean that it has to be very expensive, (or that it isn’t actually mass-produced). You can find beautiful, artisan looking pieces at many affordable home stores, like Target, Home Goods or H&M… it just may take a bit more searching!

6. Consider Floors, Walls and Ceilings

We know this might not be possible for everyone due to time and budget, but if you want to really transform your home, update your floors, walls and ceiling. Some details can really age your home, like carpeting, certain wallpaper and paint colors, and popcorn ceilings. If you have the time and means, consider replacing and updating these so your floors, walls and ceiling are all on point. This will dramatically elevate your home and also increase the overall value of your property.

7. White, Layered Bedding

Have you ever walked into a nice hotel room and seen loudly colored or patterned bedding? Probably not. White bed sets instantly elevate your space. This does not mean that you can’t have any color, but consider using color in smaller details, like throws and accent pillows to create a sophisticated look. Keeping things mostly neutral and layering plush, white bedding will make your bedrooms look luxurious and stylish.

8. Add Contrast

Adding contrast is a trick most designers use to elevate the look of a space. Adding contrasting elements creates a lot of visual interests in your home, and it just looks more luxurious and upscale. Black accents are very on trend right now and they create a stylish look when used in a mostly neutral room. Painting architectural features or trim an accent color can add that sophisticated contrast to upgrade your space.

9. Update Fixtures and Finishes

If you really want to dramatically upgrade the look of your home, consider updating your fixtures and finishes. Certain light fixtures just don’t look luxurious no matter how well maintained they are, and they can really age your home and throw off the whole look. You may even be able to transform the items you already have without buying new pieces. A simple solution like painting preexisting cabinet pulls and fixtures matte black can give your home a stylish update.

10. Think About the Little Things

If you want the overall vibe of your home to be luxurious and stylish, you have to think about the little things. Consider upgrading the everyday items that get a lot of use, especially when you have guests over. Things like glasses, plates, serving ware, coasters, soap dispensers, hand towels, etc.. These are all details you can easily elevate. Choose sophisticated and stylish items that are cohesive and match the décor in your home. Get rid of any kitschy, mismatched and really old, worn pieces. Remember, you don’t have to spend a lot of money to get a luxurious look.
