3 Tips for a Balanced Room Design

A well-balanced room design provides your guests (or potential home buyers) a visually appealing and comforting space. Here are 3 tips to create a balanced room that not only looks great but will enhance your daily living experience.

1. Proper Placement and Sizing of Furniture and Decor

It’s crucial to place each piece of furniture and decor in the right location. For example, pathways should not be obstructed, so the room should have a clear sense of purpose. Also, ensure that the size of each piece of furniture is appropriate to avoid making the room appear cramped and cluttered in a smaller space. On the other hand, using too small of furniture and decor in a larger space will make your room feel cold and awkward.

2. Choose Complimenting Colors and Patterns

Your room and home should have a harmonious feel throughout the color scheme. Balance bold colors with neutral tones and mix patterns in a way that they complement each other instead of competing.

3. Proper Lighting

Make sure each room in your home has proper and adequate lighting, to create a well balanced design. Each room should have 3 light sources – Ambient or general lighting such as overhead lights, Accent light such as decorative lamps, and Task lighting, such as sconces and spotlights. Adjust the type of lighting used throughout your home to fit each room’s purpose and functionality.
